FAQ

Buggy and quad in Marrakech: all your questions answered

Age, licence, safety, what to wear, weather, payment, cancellation: everything you need to know before your ride in the Agafay Desert. Missing a question? Message us, we reply within 2 hours.

Age, licence and experience

From what age can you drive a buggy or quad?
16, accompanied by a responsible adult present at the base. ID is required at check-in.
From what age can you ride as a passenger?
6, on the 2- and 4-seater buggies as well as on the quads. The buggy harnesses adjust to a child’s size.
Do I need a driving licence?
No. Our rides take place on private trails, away from public roads: no licence is required.
Do I need experience?
No. The vast majority of our visitors have never driven a buggy or a quad. The briefing takes 10 to 15 minutes, we start gently and the guide sets the pace to suit the group.
Can a pregnant woman take part?
We advise against it: the trails are bumpy. A buggy passenger feels the same jolts as the driver.

Safety and equipment

What equipment is provided?
Helmet and goggles for everyone; 4-point harnesses in the buggies, gloves on the quads. Vehicles are serviced between every ride.
What does the briefing cover?
The guide goes through the controls, braking, safe following distance and convoy signals, then lets you drive for a few minutes before the real departure.
Do you ride alone or in a group?
Always in a convoy behind a guide, never alone. With large groups, a second guide brings up the rear.
What happens if something breaks down?
The guide handles it: a replacement vehicle or a return to the base is arranged. Damage caused by reckless driving may be charged for, though that almost never happens.

What to wear and weather

What should I wear for a buggy or quad ride?
Closed shoes are compulsory, clothes you don’t mind getting dirty, long trousers recommended on the quad, sunglasses, sunscreen and a scarf against the dust. In winter and in the evening, a jacket.
Is it too hot in summer?
In July and August, go for early-morning departures or the sunset ride. Water is provided and breaks are more frequent.
What if it rains?
Rain is rare in Agafay. If the trails become dangerous, we reschedule the ride free of charge to a date of your choice, or refund the deposit.

Booking, payment and cancellation

How do I book?
Through the online form or on WhatsApp. We confirm availability, the meeting time and the price within 2 hours during opening hours.
Do I have to pay online?
No. You pay on site, in dirhams or euros. Only raids and quoted packages require a 20% deposit by bank transfer.
What’s the cancellation policy?
Free up to 48 hours before for 1 h and 2 h rides. For raids, the deposit is refunded up to 7 days before, then kept, except in bad weather.
Can I book on the same day?
Often, yes, depending on which vehicles are available. Message us on WhatsApp for an immediate reply.

On site

What does the Agafay Desert look like?
A stone desert: ochre plateaus, rounded hills, dry riverbeds and the High Atlas behind — no sand dunes. The nearest ones are 9 to 10 hours’ drive away, hence the Agafay or the Sahara question most visitors ask themselves before choosing.
Where is the meeting point?
Afriquia petrol station, km 16 on the Amizmiz road, 35 minutes from the centre of Marrakech. See our page “Getting here from Marrakech”.
Is the hotel transfer included?
No, it’s optional through our partner drivers, priced in your confirmation. A ride-hailing app or taxi is often the simplest.
Are there toilets and water at the base?
Yes, at the base and at the tea-break camp.
Can I take photos?
Yes, at the stops planned by the guide. Secure your phone well: dust and bumps don’t mix with loose objects.
